Bengaluru: A video showing a group of people offering namaz in the open at Kempegowda International Airport’s Terminal 2 has sparked a major row, with the BJP slamming the Congress government for alleged security lapses in a high-risk zone.

The clip, which went viral on social media, captures devotees praying publicly despite a designated prayer room inside the airport premises.

Sources say the individuals were relatives bidding farewell to pilgrims headed to Mecca. The footage clearly shows airport staff and security personnel, but no immediate intervention took place. BJP leader Vijay Prasad fired off questions on X (formerly Twitter), tagging CM Siddaramaiah and IT Minister Priyank Kharge: “How was this trio allowed in T2? Did they seek permission? The terminal is a high-security area!” He accused the state of double standards, citing bans on RSS path sanchalan while turning a blind eye to such incidents.

In response, the Karnataka government is mulling strict guidelines to prohibit all religious or political activities within airport boundaries. Officials indicate a formal order could be issued soon to prevent future controversies.

The episode has ignited debates on security protocols and religious freedoms in public spaces, amplifying political tensions ahead of key events.
