New Delhi: The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Executive Board has announced that the city of Ahmedabad will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in India.
The decision, which is expected to be confirmed at the CGF General Assembly in Glasgow on November 26, will place Ahmedabad at the centre of one of the world’s fastest-growing regions for sports events, following its successful hosting of the Games in New Delhi in 2010, where more than 6,000 athletes from 71 nations competed.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the day was a matter of great pride and happiness for India. He had a word of praise for every Indian and attributed the rise in India’s status as a global sports powerhouse to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s untiring efforts. Shah mentioned the world-class facilities and breeding of sports talent throughout the country after Modi, which converted India into a hub of the best in the world.
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya praised the decision as a momentous one for Indian sports and an indication of the country’s increasing prominence in world athletics. He credited Modi’s foresight for this achievement.
IOA President and Commonwealth Games Association (India) chief PT Usha said hosting the centenary Commonwealth Games was an extraordinary honour for India.
This high-profile event reflects the growing clout of India in international sports and is committed to projecting Ahmedabad’s credentials at a global level.
