In a major intelligence breakthrough, Rajasthan Police arrested Mangat Singh, a resident of Govindgarh in Alwar, on October 10 for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Singh faced charges under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and had been under surveillance since Operation Sindoor, a covert crackdown on cross-border espionage networks.

Investigations reveal Singh had been in clandestine contact with two Pakistani numbers for over a year, funnelling sensitive military intelligence from Alwar’s key cantonment and surrounding army installations.

In exchange, he received substantial payments wired from across the border, with his mobile phone yielding damning evidence of transactions and encrypted communications. One handler number is linked to a honeytrap operation, where ISI allegedly lured him with romantic enticements to extract secrets, while the other traces directly to Pakistan.

Rajasthan Intelligence’s intensified monitoring post-Operation Sindoor flagged Singh’s suspicious activities, including social media exchanges with ISI handlers dating back two years. Even during the operation’s high-stakes phase, he purportedly relayed critical updates, compromising national security. “Singh was actively sharing army details and receiving hefty sums; interrogations are uncovering deeper layers,” said DIG Rajesh Meel, leading the probe.

Joint questioning by multiple agencies has already exposed leaks about Alwar Army Headquarters and other vital sites. Police are now tracing the full money trail and potential accomplices, amid fears of a broader ISI module targeting Rajasthan’s border regions.

This arrest underscores the shadowy perils of digital espionage, where honeytraps and quick cash turn locals into unwitting traitors. As interrogations continue, authorities vow to dismantle the network before it strikes again.
