New Delhi: BJP national president and Union Minister JP Nadda launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his allegations of ‘vote theft’ during a visit to Bihar on Saturday.
Accusing the Congress and its ally RJD of being an irresponsible Opposition, Nadda questioned the source and mathematics behind Gandhi’s fluctuating voter data claims, dismissing them as baseless attempts to undermine democratic processes.
Addressing a gathering in Patna, Nadda highlighted that the revision of electoral rolls is a routine exercise conducted by the Election Commission, not a novel conspiracy as portrayed by Gandhi during his ‘Matdata Adhikar Yatra’. “This isn’t the first time voter lists are being revised; it’s happened before,” Nadda asserted, pointing out that Gandhi had ignored the poll body’s directive to file an affidavit on similar accusations of tampering in a Karnataka Assembly segment.
Nadda bluntly addressed Gandhi’s inconsistencies. He recalled how on February 3, Gandhi claimed 70 lakh voters were added before the Maharashtra Assembly polls, only to revise it to 29 lakh on February 7 and then inflate it to one crore on July 9. “Where do these figures come from? What’s the maths behind them?” Nadda quipped, adding that a poor performer always blames the tools — here, the Opposition faults the Election Commission when voters reject them.
The BJP chief also slammed the Opposition’s mindset, referencing abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother, allegedly instigated by Congress allies, and a recent video exposing their “filthy mentality.”
Turning to RJD, Nadda redefined its acronym: “R for rangdari (extortion), J for jungle raj (lawlessness), and D for dadagiri (bullying).” Nadda praised Bihar’s progress under PM Modi and CM Nitish Kumar, forecasting a resounding victory for the NDA in the upcoming Assembly elections as a lesson to the Opposition.
Meanwhile, Nadda chaired a BJP core committee meeting at the state guest house, reviewing poll preparations. Attendees included national general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh, state BJP chief Dilip Jaiswal, deputy chief ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, and others. Jaiswal observed extensive discussions on organisational matters and future strategies.
The exchange underscores escalating political tensions ahead of Bihar polls, with voter integrity emerging as a flashpoint.
