New Delhi: On June 4, Malaysia denied Pakistan’s request to stop India’s Operation Sindoor events, approving all 10 programs in Kuala Lumpur despite Pakistan’s attempts over Islamic solidarity to raise the Kashmir issue at the UN.

Malaysia was resolute in the face of Pakistan’s diplomatic overtures to thwart India’s Operation Sindoor cultural promotion program. The Pakistan embassy in Kuala Lumpur called for the suspension of these initiatives, citing common Islamic identity and the discussion on Kashmir at the UN body. Sources say Pakistan packaged the events as a religious slight to influence Malaysia’s decision.

However, Malaysia rejected these objections and approved all 10 programs that the Indian delegation had planned. The decision was a setback for Pakistan, which tried to thwart India’s diplomatic initiative to showcase its anti-terror move post-Pahalgam terror attack last month, in which 26 civilians were killed on April 22, 2025.

India’s Operation Sindoor, which began on May 7, 2025, was a series of surgical strikes on at least nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under the Modi administration. The delegation’s visit to Malaysia was part of an effort to explain India’s position on dealing with terrorism and highlight Pakistan’s role in the attack.

OneIndia News reports that Kuala Lumpur will welcome the Indian delegation, signalling Malaysia’s support for India’s anti-terror stance. Posts on X also indicated Malaysia had condemned the attack on Pahalgam and generally supported India’s response, but Pakistan’s objections were markedly religious and geopolitical.

Pakistan offered a different version of events, with its government accusing India of causing civilian casualties in its strikes, a claim that India denies, insisting that only terrorist sites were hit. Indian leaders like MP Shashi Tharoor said countries like Malaysia offered condolences for Pahalgam victims and praised India’s precision strikes.

The Malaysian refusal comes against the backdrop of the world coming closer to adopting India’s counterterrorism narrative. With India expanding its global outreach through multi-party delegations to 33 capitals, the focus has remained steadily on garnering support against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, and Malaysia’s position seems to have resulted in a diplomatic win for New Delhi.
