Islamabad: A Pakistani woman delivered a baby girl on the India-Pakistan border; the pair christened her “Bharti”, a name that made many Indians smile. Along with a group of 159 Hindu immigrants from Sindh, the couple—who came from Pakistan’s Sindh province—travelled to the Wagah-Attari border. Among them was Maya, a pregnant immigrant to India who began experiencing labour pains during her immigration process.
Khanu, her husband, reported the crime right away, and Indian officials swiftly made arrangements for her admission to the Attari government hospital. After a few hours of treatment, the infant was born healthily. The couple decided to call the infant “Bharti”, a name that reflects a connection with India since she was born on Indian territory.
Following the birth, the physicians certified the mother and the infant as healthy, and they were let leave the hospital. Khanu appreciated the quick response of the Indian army and other authorities. Maya started experiencing contractions as soon as they set foot on Indian territory, according to him, and the Indian security officials and soldiers responded almost right away.
The birth delighted Khanu’s relatives—including those of Maya—who also expressed their happiness about the name “Bharti”. For the migrant Hindu families from Pakistan, who were first concerned about their future and safety, this event has become really important. The birth of “Bharti” on Indian territory offered them hope for a better future.
With two sons and five daughters already, Khanu sees the birth of his daughter in India as a fresh start for them, believing that the child will bring about positive change in their future.
