Raipur: As the Haryana assembly elections draw near, political activities across the state are intensifying. In a recent statement, Bhupesh Baghel, the former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and a prominent Congress leader, criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and outlined Congress’s promises for the upcoming elections.
Speaking to ANI, Baghel asserted, “There is a one-sided atmosphere in favour of the Congress in Haryana because the BJP, in its 10-year rule, first angered the farmers, then angered the soldiers, and finally angered the wrestlers.” He continued, “The BJP will have to pay the price for this anger. People are now just waiting for October 5. It was here that they implemented schemes that cost the public, so they will suffer losses. At the same time, all the people in the Congress are fighting the elections unitedly and the seven guarantees given by the party will benefit them.”
Baghel detailed the Congress party’s seven key promises to the voters:
- Women’s Allowance: Women aged 18 to 60 will receive an allowance of ₹2,000 per month, with an additional ₹500 provided separately for cylinders.
- Farmer Support: Legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers and immediate compensation for crops.
- Youth Employment: Creation of 200,000 permanent jobs through a recruitment scheme, alongside initiatives to establish a drug-free state.
- Caste Survey: Conducting a caste survey of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) with the creamy layer limit set at ₹10 lakh.
- Pension Restoration: Restoration of old pensions and provision of an additional ₹6,000 per month pension to the elderly, disabled, and widows.
- Healthcare and Utilities: Free electricity up to 300 units and free medical treatment up to ₹25 lakh.
- Housing for the Poor: Allocation of a 100-yard plot and a two-room house to the poor at a cost of ₹3.5 lakh.
The Haryana assembly elections are scheduled for October 5, 2024, with vote counting set for October 8. The current 90-member assembly’s term concludes on November 3, 2024. The BJP has governed Haryana for the past decade. In the last Lok Sabha elections, the BJP lost five seats, while the Congress gained five seats after 10 years in power.
Baghel emphasized the unified stance of the Congress party, stating that their comprehensive promises aim to address the grievances of various sections of society, ensuring a fair and equitable governance model.
As the election date approaches, the political landscape in Haryana remains highly competitive, with both major parties gearing up to secure a majority. Voters are keenly observing the promises and past performances of the parties, which will significantly influence the electoral outcome.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has also been actively involved in ensuring a fair electoral process, addressing concerns related to voter inconvenience and administrative efficiency. With intense campaigning underway, the upcoming elections are poised to be a decisive moment for Haryana’s political future.
