Modi in New York: Khalistani Disruption Foiled By Police

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a diplomatic tour of the United States, with his visit to New York drawing significant attention. On the second day of his tour, PM Modi arrived at the Nassau Coliseum Indoor Stadium, where he addressed a large gathering of Indian-Americans. However, the event was marred by attempts from Khalistani supporters to disrupt proceedings.

Reports indicate that the New York Police Department acted swiftly to thwart these plans, arresting at least one individual associated with the Khalistani movement. This arrest occurred when demonstrators attempted to disrupt PM Modi’s program at the Nassau Coliseum, arriving with flags and banners, including a display from “Sikhs for Justice” positioned near the venue.

Nassau County police removed the inflammatory banners and propaganda materials that had been distributed in the area. According to a CNN report, local officials expressed concern over the activities of Khalistani groups, noting that only a small number of individuals are involved in such protests.

US officials emphasised their commitment to maintaining strong diplomatic relations with India and reiterated that they would not tolerate any actions that could embarrass either government during this important visit. Enhanced security measures have been put in place to protect PM Modi throughout his time in the United States.

As the Prime Minister engages with the Indian-American community, the backdrop of potential protests serves as a reminder of the complex political dynamics at play, both domestically and internationally.
