New Delhi: In a glittering and highly anticipated ceremony celebrating both global beauty and social purpose, Joheirry Mola Dominguez of the Dominican Republic was officially crowned Miss World 2026. The grand finale of the 73rd Miss World pageant took place in the coastal city of Nha Trang, Vietnam, on Saturday, September 5. This year’s event also carried special historical significance, marking exactly 75 years since the iconic pageant was first established in London in 1951.
Dominguez emerged victorious after a fiercely contested weeks-long event that saw participation from 111 countries and territories. Overwhelmed with emotion, the newly minted beauty queen was adorned with the coveted blue crown by her predecessor, Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand. Chuangsri had made her own history during the previous edition by becoming the first contestant from Thailand to win the prestigious title.
The competition concluded with a diverse and highly competitive top tier. Spain’s Elisabeth Reynes delivered a strong performance to be named the first runner-up, while Taanusiya Chetty from Malaysia secured the second runner-up position, bringing immense pride to her home country.
However, for Indian pageant enthusiasts, the evening ended in a slight disappointment. Nikita Porwal, a native of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, represented India at the global forum. Having earned her spot by winning the Femina Miss India World crown, Porwal carried the hopes of a billion people. While she successfully advanced into the Top 40 finalists, she unfortunately failed to secure a spot in the crucial Top 20 and was eliminated before the final rounds of the competition.
The Miss World 2026 coronation night served as the spectacular culmination of several weeks of rigorous preliminary competitions.
