New Delhi: Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss various issues related to the state. During the meeting, Banerjee highlighted the pending dues of one lakh 16 thousand crore rupees owed to West Bengal by the Centre.
Expressing her concern, Banerjee stated that the state has not received the funds despite 155 teams visiting Bengal to assess the situation. She emphasised the need for an early release of the dues to ensure the smooth implementation of various projects and schemes in West Bengal.
To address the issue, the Prime Minister proposed joint meetings between officials of the Centre and West Bengal to discuss the matter in detail. Banerjee welcomed the proposal and expressed hope that a mutually agreeable solution would be reached.
Additionally, Banerjee proposed the name Mallikarjun Kharge as the potential Prime Minister candidate, garnering support from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
In response to the recent controversy involving a Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP allegedly making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Modi, Banerjee stated that the party would respond appropriately. She assured that the parliamentary party would discuss the issue and take the necessary action.
The meeting between Banerjee and Modi also covered other important topics, including the closure of the housing scheme and health mission, as well as the non-receipt of funds from the Finance Commission. The Prime Minister listened attentively to Banerjee’s concerns and promised to address them in a timely manner.
The meeting concluded with Banerjee reiterating her commitment to working constructively with the Centre for the benefit of the people of West Bengal.
