[Watch] Jyothi Yarraji Races To Historic 100m Hurdles Gold In Asian Athletics Championships

Bangkok: Talented hurdler Jyothi Yarraji claimed the women’s 100m hurdles gold at the Asian Athletics Championships here on Thursday.

It was the first time an Indian woman had topped the hurdles event. It was also the 23-year-old athlete’s maiden top finish in a major international event, PTI reported.

Andhra’s Yarraji, who trained at Odisha RF Athletics HPC, clocked 13.09 seconds to win the hurdles final ahead of Japanese runners Terada Asuka (13.13s) and Aoki Masumi (13.26s) on a rain-drenched track at Bangkok’s Supachalasai National Stadium.

Yarraji’s national record stands at 12.82 seconds.

India went on to win 2 more gold medals through the efforts of Abdulla Aboobacker in men’s triple jump and Ajay Kumar in men’s 1500m.

Aishwarya Mishra (women’s 400m) and Tejaswin Shankar (decathlon) picked up bronze medals.

On Wednesday, Abhishek Pal had opened India’s medal account with a bronze in men’s 10,000m.
