New Delhi: India’s first indigenously-developed vaccine for prevention of cervical cancer will be launched here on Thursday.
Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) last month granted market authorization to Serum Institute of India (SII) to manufacture the quadrivalent Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine.
Union Minister of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh will launch the vaccine at IIC Delhi, in the presence of SII CEO Adar Poonawalla, PTI reported.
According to officials, the qHPV vaccine CERVAVAC has shown robust antibody response which is nearly 1,000 times higher than the baseline against all targeted HPV types, and in all dose and age groups.
Cervical cancer is the second most common form of cancer among women in the 15-44 age group, after breast cancer.
