New Delhi: Now that the results of the Delhi Assembly elections are out, with the BJP emerging victorious by a huge margin, the next Chief Minister will emerge from among such speculation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a foreign visit, and the swearing-in ceremony for the new government is likely to be held once he returns. But the preliminary conversations about the Chief Ministerial candidate have already been kicked off.

According to sources, the next Chief Minister of Delhi could be elected from among the elected MLAs. They could also choose a woman for the role. Sources said that the high command is weighing the social engineering aspect as well and may recommend a Deputy Chief Minister. The cabinet is likely to comprise several women and Dalits.

Prime Minister Modi spoke with party workers at the BJP headquarters after the election results were declared on 8 February. Later, he had a crucial meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda, where the CM’s face and cabinet discussions are strongly believed to have taken place. But the party has not issued any statements on the matter.

On the previous day, a vital meeting also took place at the home of the Union Home Minister. BJP National President JP Nadda, Organization General Secretary BL Santosh, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, Election In-Charge Baijayant Panda, and other leaders from Delhi remained present at the meeting.

The BJP considers keeping the balance of caste and regional representation. This has led to questions regarding whether the party would replicate the Deputy Chief Minister model of several other states in Delhi as well. Earlier, five leaders were in the contest for the chief ministerial position. One of them is Parvesh Verma, who defeated Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi Assembly seat. Another discussed name is Satish Upadhyay, the BJP’s prominent Brahmin face.

Another prominent candidate is the Punjabi face of the BJP, Ashish Sood, a former councilor and General Secretary of Delhi BJP. Along with them is Jitender Mahajan, a Vaishya leader, who is considered close to the RSS as well, and the Delhi BJP President Vijender Gupta, who too is a Vaishya face.

The party is mulling over choosing its Chief Ministerial candidate, but the final alert is keenly waiting at both ends of the party and outside.
