Washington: The fragile peace in the Middle East has completely shattered following massive airstrikes by the United States on Iran, which triggered immediate and intense retaliation from Tehran. The dramatic escalation unfolded over the last 24 hours, effectively ending any hopes for a sustained cease fire and pushing the region back to the brink of an all out war.
American fighter jets, launched from warships deployed near the Strait of Hormuz, carried out over 170 strikes targeting Iranian military installations and critical infrastructure. The heavy bombardment hit 10 cities and five islands, severely damaging major strategic locations including the Chabahar, Bushehr, and Bandar Abbas ports. A runway at the Tehran airport was also destroyed during the aerial assault.
The timing of the attacks added a deeply sensitive dimension to the conflict. The strikes occurred just as hundreds of thousands of Iranians were heading to Mashhad for the burial of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. American forces targeted two key railway bridges connecting Tehran and Mashhad, leaving over 50000 mourners stranded midway and resulting in the reported deaths of 14 individuals.
Defending the aggressive military action, US President Donald Trump stated that the strikes were a direct retaliation after Iran attacked three ships. Trump asserted that the US responded with 20 times more force. He claimed a decisive military victory, stating that Iran has very little power left and that Tehran is now desperately reaching out over the phone to negotiate a compromise.
However, the ground reality shows a defiant Iran vowing severe revenge. Refusing to bow down, Iranian forces launched a fierce counterattack targeting American military bases across the Middle East. Ballistic missiles struck the Ali Al Salem base in Kuwait, the Juffair and Sheikh Isa bases in Bahrain, and the Azraq air base in Jordan. Tehran claimed to have inflicted heavy damage on these key US installations.
With 19 American warships stationed near Hormuz and another 20 patrolling the Arabian Sea, the military standoff is at an all time high. As Tehran burns with the desire for retaliation following the disruption of the funeral proceedings, intelligence sources suggest a growing and direct threat to the life of Donald Trump. The rapid cycle of attacks has once again turned the Middle East into a highly volatile war zone, leaving the global community deeply concerned.
