Kolkata: In a shocking political development, Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Dola Sen has alleged that an attempt was made to attack former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with a knife. The claim has sparked immediate and severe concerns over the security apparatus surrounding the high-profile political leader.
According to the initial claims made by the TMC parliamentarian, an inebriated woman reportedly tried to assault the former Chief Minister with a sharp weapon. Following the alleged security breach, the Trinamool Congress quickly approached the local authorities to register an official grievance. A formal complaint regarding the incident has been lodged at the Kalighat police station, which is located in the vicinity of Banerjee’s residence.
Addressing the media and expressing her outrage over the incident, TMC MP Dola Sen raised serious questions about the prevailing law and order situation in the state. Highlighting the gravity of the alleged security lapse, Sen stated, “A complaint has been registered at the Kalighat police station regarding this. However, the Lalbazar Police Headquarters has not responded to the incident yet.”
Slamming the state of affairs, Sen further added, “The situation in Bengal has deteriorated to such an extent that even a leader who is protected under the stringent Z-plus security cover, and who has served as the Chief Minister for three terms, is not safe.”
Despite the severity of the allegations made by the senior Trinamool Congress leader, the top brass of the city’s law enforcement is yet to issue a formal statement. As of now, the Lalbazar Police Headquarters has not reacted or provided any official clarification regarding the alleged attack, the identity of the accused woman, or the exact sequence of events.
The incident is expected to trigger a fresh wave of political debates regarding the safety of prominent political figures in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee has historically been surrounded by tight security, holding Z-plus category protection, making any alleged breach a matter of high-level administrative scrutiny. Authorities are expected to review the security protocols and investigate the claims mentioned in the Kalighat police complaint thoroughly in the coming days.
