Tempers Flare In Parliament As BJP MP Pratap Sarangi Manhandled Amid Row Over Ambedkar Comments

NewDelhi: Parliament witnessed high tempers today as an exchange between the opposition parties and the ruling party led to BJP MP Pratap Sarangi getting manhandled. It took place prior to the day’s sitting due to a developing row where Mr. Shah made some comments against Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Sarangi, who sustained an eye injury and was rushed to the hospital, said Rahul Gandhi shoved another MP who landed on him. On the same, Gandhi dismissed these allegations, claiming that he was in the company of BJP MPs when the act was being committed. “They have forced me, but I have said such actions do not have an impact on us,” Gandhi said.

The Congress party accused some BJP MPs of trying to force party leaders Priyanka Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge during the scuffle.

Protests today characterised the parliamentary sittings, with both Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi appearing in blue to represent the colour of Ambedkar activism. The Lok Sabha was suspended till 2 PM in view of the noon mayhem, which went on for some time.

It remains to be seen how the opposition puts pressure on Shah for his words during the discussion on the Constitution’s 75-year journey in the Rajya Sabha. However, the freshness invited by the AAP has sparked a counterattack from the BJP, which has accused Congress of having a poor record of respecting Ambedkar.
