New Delhi: As the indefinite hunger strike led by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk entered a critical phase at Jantar Mantar, Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker visited the protest site on Tuesday to extend her complete solidarity. The prominent educationist has been fasting for over two weeks under the banner of the Cockroach Janta Party to protest against the massive irregularities in the NEET medical entrance examination.
During her visit, the fearless actress interacted with the protesting students and met Wangchuk to inquire about his rapidly deteriorating health. The official social media handles of the protesting organization shared pictures of her visit, praising her unapologetic support for their ongoing movement. Following the meeting, Swara Bhasker took to her personal Instagram account to share powerful images from the protest venue.
Expressing her deep gratitude, the actress penned a heartfelt note stating that the indefatigable Sonam Wangchuk is selflessly fighting for the future of all children across the nation. She thanked the entire protesting group for their immense dedication and publicly declared her unwavering solidarity with their crucial educational demands.
The protest at Jantar Mantar aims to hold the central government accountable for the recent examination paper leak scandals. The fasting students and activists are strictly demanding the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. They are also seeking fair compensation for the families of students who tragically lost their lives due to the severe academic stress caused by the controversy.
The prolonged fast of the activist has sparked massive concern among prominent public figures across the country. Veteran actors Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah, along with acclaimed writer Arundhati Roy, recently issued a joint statement urging Wangchuk to end his dangerous fast. They reminded the protesters that their battle against the system is a long marathon rather than a quick sprint. Furthermore, actor Omi Vaidya, famously known for his role in the movie 3 Idiots, released an emotional video appealing to the authorities to save the man who inspired the beloved character of Phunsukh Wangdu.
Despite immense physical pain and continuous muscle loss, Wangchuk remains completely resolute in his demands. The protesting students have now announced a massive peaceful march towards the Parliament building on July 20 to amplify their voices and force the government to initiate a direct dialogue.
