New Delhi: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s political future is the subject of intense speculation following his closed-door meeting with BJP national president JP Nadda in Delhi. Chouhan’s presence at the event raised eyebrows, given his recent electoral loss to Mohan Yadav in the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections.
According to reports, Chouhan talked about his involvement in the upcoming Developed India Sankalp Yatra, a nationwide campaign the BJP launched to rally support for the party’s goal of a developed India by 2047. Chouhan is expected to visit various states during the yatra, including the southern states.
Chouhan remained evasive when asked about his future plans, saying that he would accept any role that the party assigned to him. He expressed confidence in Mohan Yadav’s leadership as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and pledged his full support to the state government.
However, sources within the BJP suggest that Chouhan may be given a central assignment, potentially as a cabinet minister in the Union government. This move would be seen as a way to utilise Chouhan’s vast political experience and administrative skills at the national level.
Chouhan’s departure from Madhya Pradesh could have a significant impact on the state’s politics. He has been a dominant figure in the state for over a decade, serving as Chief Minister for three consecutive terms. His absence could create a power vacuum within the BJP and lead to factionalism and infighting.
The BJP is yet to make a formal announcement regarding Chouhan’s future role. The party is expected to hold further consultations before taking a final decision. In the meantime, the speculation surrounding Chouhan’s future continues to fuel political intrigue and uncertainty in both Madhya Pradesh and the national BJP leadership.
