New Delhi: Renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam has officially postponed his upcoming live concert in the national capital. The decision comes in the wake of the ongoing nationwide student protests over the NEET paper leak controversy. The musical event originally planned for July 25 at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in Dwarka has now been pushed to August 15.
The performance was a highly anticipated part of his tribute series honoring legendary musician Mohammed Rafi. Fans noticed earlier this week that tickets for the original date were no longer available on online booking platforms. Soon after promotional posters were officially updated with the revised Independence Day schedule.
Confirming the development to the press the acclaimed singer stated that the event has been postponed keeping the current public sentiment in mind.
The rescheduling decision arrives just a day after a video of the singer went viral on social media platforms. During a public event reporters repeatedly questioned him about his stance on the student agitation led by the Cockroach Janata Party. Appearing visibly frustrated by the sudden questions he chose not to comment on the matter. He ended the media interaction abruptly and walked away from the venue.
The growing student movement demanding accountability and structural education reforms has garnered massive attention across the country. Thousands of medical aspirants and job seekers have gathered at Jantar Mantar to demand swift justice and the resignation of top government officials. The national capital remains the absolute epicenter of these massive demonstrations. Following the widespread outrage several public figures and celebrities have started taking a firm stand in solidarity with the aggrieved youth.
Interestingly Sonu Nigam is not the only artist to alter his professional schedule due to the prevailing unrest. Popular stand up comedian Anubhav Singh Bassi also announced the cancellation of his Delhi show. His comedy performance was slated for July 25 at the Talkatora Stadium. Taking to Instagram Bassi praised the energy and creativity of the protesting youth while promising his fans a full refund and a new show date very soon.
