Navi Mumbai: Indian young wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh created history today; today she scored the fastest T20I fifty by an Indian woman and equal to the world record during India’s easy win against West Indies at DY Patil Stadium.
Tew has been a most proficient right-handed batter, achieving her fifty in just 18 balls, joining the likes of the world record holder Sophie Devine from New Zealand and Australian Phobe Litchfield. Ghosh’s kitchen today captain a blitzkrieg knock of 54 off 21 balls, three fours, and five sixes took India to their highest-ever T20I total of 217 for four.
Ghosh, who began her fireworks right from the start of her stay at the crease in the 15th over, began powerfully by hitting the very first delivery she faced for a huge six over long-off. She continued her rampage till the last over when she built a 70-run stand with Raghavi Bisht of just 32 balls.
The night also included a record broken in the Indian camp as stand-in captain Smriti Mandhana entered the record books for becoming the first woman to amass thirty T20i fifties. Mandhana for India slammed 77 off 47 to make a blazing start and lay the foundation for the monumental total while Jemima Rodrigues added 39 off 28 balls, vital at the death.
Ghosh said it after her innings: “When I went in, I just wanted to continue the momentum Smriti di had set.” “I knew it was possible to break our record today, and everything seemed to go well out there for us.”
This score breaks India’s previous best T20I total of 201 for eight against UAE in February this year; it is a landmark score for the Indian women’s cricket.
