Regional Air Services Under UDAN Allowed On Select Routes

New Delhi: The Civil Aviation Ministry on Sunday announced resumption of regional air connectivity services under the UDAN scheme with certain conditions.

The operational routes in priority areas including northeastern region, hill states and islands are permitted to resume operations, the ministry order said adding operational routes up to 500 km stage length are also allowed.

Similarly, operational helicopter routes and selected airline operators (SAOs) are allowed to operate under UDAN, including seaplanes on the permitted routes.

The airline operators can also operate regional connectivity scheme routes with stage length of more than 500 km if operation of such routes is necessary for repositioning of aircraft for a network which consists of all other permitted RCS routes.

Some airline operators are allowed flexibility in the schedules with mandatory three flights per week.

The ministry has allowed airlines to resume domestic passenger flight operations in a calibrated manner from May 25.

Passenger air services were suspended for both domestic and international flights since March 25 due to the imposition of lockdown in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
