Mumbai: From the Beed district of Maharashtra, there is alarming news of one of the officials supposed to protect residents turning into a predator. Under the cover of celebrating International Women’s Day, a woman allegedly was raped by a police officer in Beed. The suspect cop brought the woman to a felicitation event when he allegedly sexually assaulted her. Regarding the victim’s complaint, the cops have arrested the officer and started an inquiry.
Uddhav Gadkar, a police officer at Patoda Police Station, reportedly invited the woman to a Women’s Day event. She consented, believing in his invitation. Instead of bringing her to the event, the cop apparently drew her into a room and sexually attacked her. The victim tried to struggle, crying for help and trying to flee, but if she did not cooperate, the cop allegedly threatened to falsely accuse her in a robbery case.
To file a complaint, the woman visited the Patoda Police Station around 1 PM. She spent hours waiting in the station; Deputy Superintendent of Police Balkrishna Hangude Patil visited the station to investigate the matter given the seriousness of the crime. The police sent the woman for a medical inspection around 6:30 PM. Later on, the case was registered against the suspect cop, who was apprehended.
Authorities said the woman from Gevrai taluka had been visiting Patoda Police Station for another legal matter. She also visited Uddhav Gadkar, a police officer at the station, and traded phone numbers with him. Over time, they continued in touch; the officer contacted her later with an invitation to Patoda, stating it was due to the Women’s Day celebration. She accuses him of driving her to a private residence and mistreating her while she was there.
