Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a pointed critique of the Congress party during the first anniversary celebration of the PM Vishwakarma Yojana in Wardha, Maharashtra. He labelled Congress as “the most corrupt party,” claiming that their disdain for cultural traditions, including Ganpati Puja, highlights their disconnect with the people.
Speaking to a gathering, PM Modi referenced recent controversies, suggesting that Congress attempts to appease certain groups at the expense of Indian traditions. He recounted an incident in Karnataka where a Ganpati idol was reportedly confined in a police van, calling it an insult that has angered the nation. “We must stand with tradition and progress in every situation,” he asserted.
During his speech, Modi also discussed the government’s initiatives for the Vishwakarma community, stating that over 8 lakh artisans have been trained in the past year alone, with more than 60,000 in Maharashtra. He emphasized that previous administrations neglected the development of rural industries and traditional skills, which the current government aims to rectify.
The Prime Minister highlighted that approximately 6.5 lakh Vishwakarma artisans have received modern equipment to enhance their businesses, with an e-voucher scheme providing ₹15,000 to beneficiaries. In total, loans amounting to ₹1,400 crore have been disbursed to support these artisans.
Modi also laid the foundation stone for ‘PM Mitra Park’ in Amravati, expressing a commitment to revitalising India’s textile industry and restoring its historical prominence in the global market. He celebrated the achievements of the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, where loans were sanctioned to 76,000 beneficiaries, with Modi personally handing over cheques to several artisans present at the event.
Overall, the anniversary of the PM Vishwakarma Yojana not only celebrated the government’s initiatives but also served as a platform for political commentary, reflecting the ongoing tensions in Indian politics.
