Kolkata: Come elections and political parties resort to all type of campaigning to woo voters that at times borders on stupidity. Voters in Salt Lake City, Kolkata on Saturday were witness to one such bizarre poll campaign.
The local TMC unit took out a rally helmed by senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, who is also the nephew of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The difference here was that the rally was being led by his life-size statue. The statue of the leader with folded hands and a garland was put atop an open jeep, which made way through the alleys of the satellite town.
This video was also shared by BJP MP Swapan Dasgupta, who tweeted saying: “Hail this fake god.”

The video footage showed, TMC supporters accompanying the statue, shouting slogans and waving the party flag. As the jeep proceeded through the roads, the supporters were seen throwing flowers in its path.
Republic TV quoted TMC supporters as claiming that the TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee have a tight schedule and they don’t have time to campaign personally in every nook and cranny of the city as well as the state. So they have created these statues to be used instead in their place in certain areas.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had used the hologram technology to good use in the 2014 election campaign, reaching out to lakhs of voters in different cities at the same time. However, he has refrained from using the technology in this election as party insiders said it did not cut much ice with the electorate.
