New Delhi: A high level meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party was held on Thursday at the residence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, lasting more than two and a half hours. According to sources, the discussions centred around the formation of the party’s new team of national office bearers, with names for the upcoming central team of BJP president Nitin Naveen expected to be finalised soon.
Sources said the marathon meeting also touched on which responsibilities within the organisation would be assigned to which leaders. It is being said that following this meeting, Nitin Naveen’s new team is likely to be announced shortly.
According to sources, BJP general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh was also present at the meeting held at Amit Shah’s residence. However, no official statement has been issued regarding this meeting so far. Multiple issues were reportedly discussed, including the formation of the party’s new national office bearers’ team.
Nitin Naveen, who took over as BJP national president in January, is expected to induct both senior and younger leaders into his new team. Sources indicated that some leaders currently holding government positions may also be brought into the organisational setup and could be given important responsibilities. The names of leaders to be included in the BJP’s new central team are expected to be announced soon.
Before the meeting at Amit Shah’s residence, another meeting had already taken place at the residence of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. That high level meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, party president Nitin Naveen, JP Nadda and other senior leaders. The meeting at Rajnath Singh’s residence came at a time when speculation over a reshuffle in the party leadership has been gaining momentum.
Separately, BJP Sikkim president DR Thapa met Amit Shah in Delhi on Wednesday. He discussed several issues including border security, disaster relief and industrial promotion. During the meeting, Thapa also raised the matter of reservation for the Limboo Tamang assembly seat and issues related to Sikkim’s development before the Home Minister. Thapa met the Union Home Minister along with the party’s state general secretary Arjun Rai.
