New Delhi: The Rohit Sharma-led Team India is continuing their adventure at the ICC Champions Trophy, which is taking place in Pakistan and Dubai. The Indian team, after defeating Bangladesh and Pakistan by giant margins, has qualified for the semifinals. The team is now preparing to compete against New Zealand in Dubai, which has also made it to the knockout stage. But the solid pacer from India, Mohammed Shami, might miss this game as he was not yet fully fit from an injury.
During India’s clash versus Pakistan, Shami was injured and he didn’t complete his full quota of overs. He didn’t bowl at full pace, only bowled about seven to eight deliveries in a practice session on Friday. A knee problem reportedly caused him to leave early in the last game.
Shami was also looking to be carrying a niggle in his calf. He did come back to bowl five more overs but bowled below his usual standard. Out of all Indian bowlers playing against Pakistan, he was the biggest failure to take any wickets and to prove economical in his spell.
As per PTI, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh is a probable replacement for Shami for the clash against New Zealand. Despite the challenges, Arshdeep has been putting in the effort with 13 overs in the nets at the ICC Academy under the supervision of bowling coach Morne Morkel. India may be tempted to give Shami a rest here, but it would do them justice if they did so, keeping him fresh for the knockout stage, which is the business end of the tournament. Furthermore, the result of this fixture will have no impact on either team’s qualification for the semis.
