Mumbai: Police have identified the man who allegedly made nine threat calls to the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital and threatened to harm Reliance Industries Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family members.
A 56-year-old jeweller named Vishnu Vidhu Bhowmik, who has a jewellery shop in south Mumbai, has been arrested.
The calls were made between 10.39 am and 12.04 pm on Monday. In one of the calls, the caller identified himself as Azfal.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Nilotpal informed that the threat calls were received by the hospital’s call centre.
“The caller had issued threat to Reliance Industries Ltd chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family members. An FIR has been registered at the DB Marg police station,” he added.
The case has been registered under section 506(II) (criminal intimidation, if the threat be to cause death or grievous hurt or to cause the destruction of any property by fire) of IPC.
The offence is punishable with imprisonment of up to seven years, or with fine, or both.
Police said the calls were traced to a residential colony in Borivali west.
A police team was dispatched and the jeweller was taken into custody from his residence in Dahisar in the afternoon.
According to a police officer, Bhowmik is a native of Tripura who has been living in Borivali for 30 years with his family.
