Modi’s X Dominance: Rivals Nowhere Near in Follower Count

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first world leader to amass 100 million followers on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). This impressive feat underscores his widespread popularity and influence on social media, making him the most followed leader globally on the platform.

Over the past three years, PM Modi’s follower count has surged by 30 million, reflecting a growing global interest in his leadership and policies. In the realm of Indian politics, Modi stands unchallenged. Even if the followers of all major leaders of the opposition India alliance are combined, their total only reaches approximately 95 million.

For comparison, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has 26.4 million followers, while Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal leads opposition figures with 27.5 million followers. Other notable politicians include former UP CM and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav with 19.9 million followers and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee with 7.4 million followers. RJD’s Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav have 6.3 million and 5.2 million followers, respectively, while NCP chief Sharad Pawar has 2.9 million followers.

PM Modi’s dominance on X extends beyond Indian politicians to global leaders as well. U.S. President Joe Biden has 38.1 million followers, Dubai’s Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has 11.3 million, and Pope Francis has 18.5 million followers, all of whom trail far behind Modi.

This online influence is not limited to political figures. In the sports and entertainment sectors, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has 64.1 million followers, Brazilian footballer Neymar Jr. has 63.6 million, and American basketball player LeBron James has 52.9 million followers. In the music and entertainment industry, Taylor Swift boasts 95.3 million followers, Lady Gaga has 83.1 million, and Kim Kardashian has 75.2 million followers. Despite their significant followings, PM Modi remains well ahead.

Beyond X, PM Modi’s social media presence is equally formidable on other platforms. He has over 91 million followers on Instagram and 25 million subscribers on YouTube. Since joining social media in 2009, Modi has effectively leveraged these platforms to engage with the public, frequently interacting with followers and responding to messages.

PM Modi’s recent visits to Italy and Austria have also contributed to a rapid increase in his follower count, highlighting his global appeal. His active and strategic use of social media continues to bolster his influence and connect him with a vast audience worldwide.
