London: Mark Wood, the star fast bowler for England’s cricket team, will miss four months due to a knee injury. Wood had an operation on his left knee, which he injured during the 2025 Champions Trophy. He exited the field in one game against Afghanistan due to this injury but came back to play in that game. But more scans showed how significant the damage was and that he needed to have surgery.

Wood’s rehabilitation will be lengthy, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said, leaving the paceman a serious doubt for the Test series against India starting June 20. The series will consist of up to five Tests, starting with the first in Leeds from June 20-24, followed by Tests starting on July 2, July 10, July 23, and the series finale on July 31.

Wood is a big loss for England after their poor showing at the 2025 Champions Trophy, where they faltered in the group stage. Captain Jos Buttler resigned in the middle of the tournament following this feeble display.

An ECB statement said today, ‘Although disappointing, the ECB is hopeful that he will be fit for the Ashes.’ Wood himself was left disappointed to miss out on cricket for a long period of time but is positive he will return much stronger once his knee is back to 100% fit.
