Paris: Indian shooter Manu Bhaker narrowly missed out on securing a hat-trick of medals at the Paris Olympics, finishing fourth in the women’s 25-meter pistol event. After winning two bronze medals earlier in the Games, Bhaker was a strong contender for the gold in this event but fell just short, finishing one place away from the podium.
Bhaker, who had already clinched bronze medals in the women’s 10-meter air pistol event and the mixed 10-meter air pistol event with teammate Sarbjot Singh, was expected to continue her impressive run. In the final of the 25-meter pistol event, she scored a total of 28 points, narrowly missing the bronze medal.
The gold medal in the event was won by South Korea’s Jiin Yang, who scored 37 points. Camille Jedrzejewski of France also scored 37 points but secured the silver medal due to a tiebreaker. Hungary’s Veronika Major captured the bronze medal with a score of 31.
Bhaker’s performance in the women’s singles 10-meter air pistol event had previously earned India its first medal at the Paris Olympics. Her achievements, along with the mixed team event bronze, have been a highlight for India’s shooting contingent, which has so far secured three medals at the Games, all in shooting.
