Mumbai: Following the sudden and tragic demise of veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar, tributes from across the film fraternity have been pouring in. The 75-year-old cinematic legend passed away at his Goa residence after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest. Amidst the outpouring of grief, actress Manisha Koirala, who shared a celebrated and highly discussed equation with the late actor, took to social media to share a poignant and emotional tribute.

Koirala, who co-starred with Patekar in several critically acclaimed films during the 1990s, remembered him purely for his exceptional artistry. Taking to Instagram, the actress posted a heartfelt message, completely sidestepping the intense media scrutiny and rumoured romance that once surrounded their off-screen relationship.

Calling him a true legend of Indian cinema, Koirala praised his immense acting prowess. “I am deeply saddened by the passing of a great actor, a brilliant personality, and a true maestro of the craft of acting,” she stated in her post. She further reflected on his unwavering commitment to cinema, adding that his contribution to films and his profound dedication to acting will always be remembered. She concluded her solemn tribute with a prayer for his soul, writing, “Om Shanti.”

The brevity of the message belied a long, intertwined history between the two stars. The pair first shared screen space in Partho Ghosh’s gripping thriller Agni Sakshi, where Patekar’s portrayal of a dangerously obsessive man and Koirala’s performance as a woman torn between her past and present earned widespread acclaim. It was during the filming of this movie that rumours of a romantic relationship between the two stars first began making headlines in Bollywood circles.

Later, they delivered another stellar performance together in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial debut, Khamoshi: The Musical. Showcasing their tremendous versatility, Patekar played a deaf-mute father to Koirala’s character, Annie, in a deeply emotional narrative that earned Koirala a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress. While their alleged off-screen romance eventually faded into the realm of industry folklore, their on-screen collaborations remain etched as some of the most powerful performances in Hindi cinema.

Patekar’s passing marks the end of an era, and Koirala’s dignified farewell stands as a testament to the enduring respect shared between two artists who created cinematic magic together.
