New Delhi: There’s bad news for Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
One of his aides, businessman Dinesh Arora, has agreed to be the government’s witness in the Delhi liquor policy case, according to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
A Delhi court granted Arora bail last week, and the CBI hadn’t oppose his bail plea.
CBI filed a petition in a city court on Monday, stating Arora would be their witness in the case against Sisodia, NDTV reported.
The CBI claimed that the businessman, an accused in the case, cooperated with investigators and provided important information.
The development is a setback for the AAP leader at a time when the party is in the midst of a strong campaign in Gujarat ahead of next month’s Assembly election in the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sisodia has been named as main accused by CBI in the liquor policy case. His residence was raided and he was grilled in connection with the case.
The Delhi government had come out with a new policy for selling liquor in the national Capital in 2021, which it later withdrew after the Lt Governor alleged corruption and asked for CBI intervention.
