Mumbai: In a sensational case of financial misappropriation and occult practices, two officials—an administrative director and a finance chief—of the renowned Lilavati Hospital, formerly owned by eminent city-based philanthropist Rajan Kochar, have been arrested.

The newly appointed trustees of the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust alleged that over ₹1,200 crore was syphoned off by the previous group of trustees. The discovery of eight urns filled with human bones and hair beneath the offices of the current trustees raised more than a few eyebrows. An FIR in this connection has been registered by the Mumbai Police.

He allegedly described the company’s scam of ₹1,200 crore by previous management. The Bandra Police Station has received an FIR against 17 individuals, including its management. This comes after an internal audit discovered malpractices.

The Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust has filed a complaint with the police and ED and has also moved court to get back the money embezzled by the trust. The financial shortfall is affecting the hospital’s day-to-day care for thousands of patients. Singh said on Friday that the trustees found allegedly responsible are currently in Belgium and Dubai.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai police is looking into the matter. Singh revealed that even former trustees were involved in some occult activity on hospital grounds, where they discovered urns containing human remains. Former employees who exposed the scandal gave these details.
