New Delhi: Just when IPL 2026 appeared to be moving smoothly without any major controversy, a sensational report has sparked panic inside the cricketing world. According to reports, the girlfriend of an IPL cricketer was allegedly caught leaking confidential team information to outsiders, forcing the BCCI to tighten security protocols across all franchises.
The controversy surfaced shortly after the BCCI issued an eight-page advisory to all 10 IPL franchises, warning them about repeated violations involving players’ relatives, partners and unofficial guests entering restricted team areas and hotels without proper authorisation.
While the board did not officially mention any specific player or franchise, a report quoted by multiple platforms claimed that one cricketer’s girlfriend was allegedly caught twice sharing internal team-related information with people outside the setup. The matter was reportedly serious enough for the franchise owner to directly approach the BCCI seeking stricter rules and clearer protocols.
The developments have now triggered fears around possible “honey-trap” risks and information leaks during the tournament. The BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit is also believed to have flagged multiple protocol breaches involving unauthorised individuals moving freely inside team environments.
Under the new guidelines, no guest, relative or acquaintance of players, support staff or franchise officials will be allowed access to hotel rooms or sensitive team areas without written permission. Franchises have also been asked to educate players about potential security threats and suspicious approaches during the tournament.
Although no names have been made public so far, the report has already created massive buzz on social media, with fans speculating about which franchise and player could be involved. For the BCCI, however, the bigger concern appears to be protecting the integrity and secrecy of teams during the high-pressure IPL season.
