Lucknow: The 2025 season of the IPL began on March 22, and just a single match has been played as of now. But one franchise was forced to replace one of its ace fast bowlers due to injury. The player was retained by LSG prior to the auction, but now the franchise was forced to add a new player. This replacement has been sanctioned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

LSG’s fast bowler Mohsin Khan has been suffering from a ligament strain in his knee. Because of this, he has not been playing any cricket matches for the past three months. He also suffered from some more problems in LSG’s training camp when he suffered a calf strain while bowling. Therefore, Mohsin Khan has been excluded from the 2025 season of the IPL. To take his place, LSG has signed Mumbai all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who went unsold in the auction.

In a formal press release, IPL asserted, “Lucknow Super Giants have added Shardul Thakur in place of injured left-arm fast bowler Mohsin Khan, who has been ruled out for the 18th season.” Seasoned all-rounder Thakur was secured from the registered available player pool at his reserve price of ₹2 crores. Thakur, having produced stellar performances for India in all formats, adds valuable IPL experience with 95 matches played for five franchises.”

Shardul Thakur went unsold in the 2025 IPL mega auction, but Lucknow Super Giants have provided him with an opportunity once again. He had just recently signed with the team and was supposed to feature in the side at any time. Lucknow Super Giants are still dealing with issues with two other bowlers, Mayank Yadav and Akash Deep, who have not joined the team yet. These players are at present at the Centre of Excellence.
