Patna: Rising cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is edging closer to his maiden India call up, with his childhood coach Manish Ojha expressing confidence that the teenage batting prodigy is ready to represent the national team at the highest level. The remarks come amid growing calls from former cricketers, selectors and experts for the youngster’s inclusion in India’s senior setup following his remarkable performances over the past year.
Speaking about Vaibhav’s rapid rise, coach Manish Ojha said the young batter has already demonstrated the temperament, skill and confidence required for international cricket. According to Ojha, Vaibhav’s performances against experienced bowlers in domestic and franchise cricket indicate that he is prepared for the next stage of his career. He believes the youngster is capable of handling the pressure associated with international cricket.
Vaibhav, who hails from Bihar, has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in Indian cricket. Trained under Ojha at the GenNex Cricket Academy in Patna from a young age, the left handed batter has consistently broken age related records and impressed selectors with his fearless batting approach.
The teenager’s recent exploits have triggered widespread discussion regarding his potential India debut. Former national selector Devang Gandhi recently stated that Vaibhav has “ticked all the boxes” and deserves consideration for a place in India’s T20I squad. Gandhi also suggested that the youngster possesses the temperament required for longer formats of the game.
Support for Vaibhav’s elevation has also come from several prominent voices in world cricket. Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara described him as “more than ready” for international cricket and predicted that an India call up could arrive very soon. Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull similarly backed the youngster’s inclusion, highlighting his ability to succeed across formats.
At the same time, some experts have advised caution. Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has urged selectors not to rush Vaibhav into Test cricket, arguing that young players should be allowed to develop naturally across formats before taking on the demands of red ball cricket. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has also emphasised the importance of a gradual progression despite acknowledging the teenager’s immense potential.
Meanwhile, Vaibhav’s rise has already been recognised at the national level. He has earned a place in the India A setup and continues to be viewed as one of the brightest prospects in Indian cricket. His performances in youth cricket, domestic tournaments and franchise competitions have strengthened the belief that a senior India debut may only be a matter of time.
As anticipation builds around his future, the final decision rests with the selectors. However, with endorsements pouring in from coaches, former selectors and cricketing legends, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s journey towards the Indian team appears to be gathering significant momentum.
