India Records New Peak Of 69,878 Cases Overnight; Total Tally Inches Closer To 30 Lakh

New Delhi: India reported the highest single-day peak in COVID-19 cases so far with 69,878 people testing positive on Saturday, pushing the country’s tally close to 30 lakh to stand at 29,75,702.

Besides, 945 fatalities were reported overnight in the country, the ministry said. However, the fatality rate dipped below 2 per cent and stood at 1.87 per cent with a total of 55,794 COVID-19 deaths so far.

About 74.69 per cent (22,22,578) people have recovered, including 63,631 patients in the last 24 hours, 23.43 per cent (6,97,330) are still under treatment.

More than 10 lakh people have been tested in the last 24 hours, said the ministry. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 3,44,91,073 samples have been tested in the country so far, including 10,23,836 on Friday.

“Early identification through testing, prompt & effective treatment through supervised home isolation and quality medical care, & innovative graded policy measures have resulted in almost 100 per cent increase in recovered cases in the last 21 days,” said the ministry.
