Bhawanipatna: The son of General Manager of Mukhiguda based Upper Indravati Hydro Electric Project’s (UIHEP), on Monday demanded a CBI inquiry into his father’s murder.
Satya Meher told the media that his father was brutally murdered. “Police remained silent soon after a missing complaint was filed. My father was fatally hit on his head and I want a CBI inquiry into it,” Satya said.
The GM, Narayan Prasad Meher’s (55) decomposed body was found near a telecom tower on Sunday, after a missing persons report was filed six days ago.
As per the deceased wife, Surekha Meher, the GM left for the office in the morning of 17th December and did not come back. Next day she lodged a missing complaint with the Mukhiguda outpost under Jaipatna police station limits.
On Monday morning, police pressed a scientific team along with a dog squad to the crime spot but did not find any clue. Even the dog squad was taken to verify the GM’s office to know whether the deceased may have been dragged from one place to another after assaulting or killing him.
Tension prevailed in the region as locals of Mukhiguda burnt tyres at a distance from the dead body and shouted slogans against police inaction. They allowed the body to be taken for an autopsy after two hours when the police assured them that the accused would be arrested. SP (Kalahandi), Batulla Gangadhar said police had registered a murder case on Monday and was looking into every angle of the crime. Police questioned the office staff as well as family members along with the locals to find clues.
The SP said according to the post mortem report, the GM’s ribs were completely broken and he had severe head injuries. “We suspect that the deceased may have jumped off a height or he may have been pushed by someone else. We are trying to find out what exactly happened during the incident and at the same time not rule out possible murder,” he said.
