Kanpur: In a court case involving the death of his wife due to dowry demands, a man received a life sentence. Rama was married to Rajesh on June 7, 2017, in Unnao. The couple lived in a rented house with Rajesh’s brother and mother in Nawabganj, Kanpur.
Rama and Rajesh had an argument that night, which turned into a horrific act, reported The Hindu. Rajesh then used an iron tawa to bludgeon Rama to death and fled the spot. An autopsy revealed that Rama was pregnant at the time of her death.
Police probe revealed that Rajesh was an alcoholic and that he and his family had been demanding dowry from Rama since the time the couple got married. They aspired for an iron almirah, a sari, which Rama’s family could not fulfil for being a totally bald producer. It was these unmet demands that started the argument leading to the incident that day.
In fact, the court convicted Rajesh for the crime, saying the murder was particularly brutal. The conviction was secured on the strength of the forensic evidence and photographs. Sending Rajesh to life imprisonment, the Additional District Judge-11 said the act was horrific and barbaric.
