House Full: A Signboard Which Encapsulates India’s Monumental COVID Tragedy

Before multiplexes invaded urban India, moviegoers dreaded a particular signboard at the entry gate of cinema halls – ‘House Full’.

Cut to COVID-19 times, and the alarming second wave of the pandemic, the same signboard is being used for a completely different purpose.

A crematorium in Bengaluru’s Chamrajpet area recently closed its gate and put up a ‘House Full’ board as it could not cope with the rush of dead bodies, reported ANI.

One look at it, and you can sense the monumental COVID tragedy that is playing out in India. Thousands of COVID patients are passing away every day as the medical infrastructure in the country is on the verge of collapse and can’t even provide the basic oxygen requirement to seriously ill patients.

The crematorium normally takes in more than 20 bodies in COVID and non-COVID sections daily. But it was forced to put up the board due to lack of space. The signboard was removed later on insistence of local people, after the situation eased.
