New Delhi: Veteran Congress leader and former party president Sonia Gandhi has made her debut on the social media platform Instagram, marking the occasion by unveiling the first glimpse of her highly anticipated autobiography, ‘Belonging: A Journey of Love’.

Taking to her newly created Instagram account, the 79-year-old leader shared a heartfelt video showcasing the book. Expressing her excitement in her first post, she wrote, “Namaste to everyone, I am very happy to share this moment with you all; presenting the first look of ‘Belonging: A Journey of Love’. This is a story of love, duty, loss, and finding my place. I am eagerly waiting to share it with all of you.”

The upcoming memoir promises an intimate and deeply personal look into the life of the longest-serving Congress president. The book chronicles her early childhood in post-World War II Italy and her romance with Rajiv Gandhi during their time at Cambridge University, which eventually brought her to India.

According to the details shared, the autobiography delves into the profound tragedies she faced, specifically the assassinations of her mother-in-law, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and her husband, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. It explores how the grief of losing her loved ones ultimately transformed her life and cemented her enduring emotional bond with the nation.

The announcement drew an emotional response from her son and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. Choosing the occasion of his late father Rajiv Gandhi’s 82nd birth anniversary, he expressed immense pride in his mother’s literary endeavour.

Praising her courage to publicly share her memories, Rahul Gandhi remarked, “I am very happy and proud that your story ‘Belonging: A Journey of Love’ will finally reach the millions of people who love you. I know how difficult it must have been for a private person like you to tell this beautiful story to the world.”

He concluded his message with a touching tribute to his late father, adding, “Today, on his birthday, I can see Papa smiling and proudly looking at his dear Sonia.” The memoir is expected to offer unprecedented insights from a leader who has remained a famously private figure despite actively shaping India’s contemporary political landscape for decades.
