Kolkata: With summer at its peak and many children refusing to eat fruits, a healthy homemade candy recipe using jamun and dragon fruit is drawing attention as a smart seasonal option for parents. The recipe offers a colourful, soft gummy treat that combines taste with nutrition and can be prepared at home without artificial colour or added sugar.

According to the TV9 Bangla report, food influencer Shweta has suggested a simple way to turn seasonal jamun and fibre rich dragon fruit into gummies for children. The idea is to make fruit more attractive for young eaters who often avoid it in its natural form.

The recipe requires 500 grams of fresh jamun, two dragon fruits, one tablespoon of sugar free sweetener, three tablespoons of chia seeds, juice of one lemon and one teaspoon of agar agar powder. The fruits should first be cleaned properly. The seeds of the jamun must be removed carefully, while the dragon fruit should be peeled and cut into small pieces.

In the next step, the jamun pulp and dragon fruit pieces are blended together until a smooth and thick mixture is formed. The mixture is then poured into a pan and cooked on medium heat. Sugar free sweetener, chia seeds, lemon juice and agar agar powder are added and mixed well. The mixture should be stirred continuously for five to seven minutes on low to medium flame.

Once the mixture thickens and the agar agar powder dissolves fully, the flame can be turned off. The warm mixture should then be poured into a silicone gummy mould or a flat tray and spread evenly in a slightly thick layer. It must be kept in the refrigerator for two to three hours to set.

The report also highlights the nutritional value of the ingredients. As per USDA data cited in the article, 100 grams of dragon fruit contains around 3.1 grams of fibre and is also a source of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, folate and vitamin C. Jamun, a popular seasonal fruit, is also known for its vitamin content and is often consumed during summer.

For parents looking for healthier snack ideas, these homemade gummies offer a practical alternative to packaged candies. While they should still be eaten in moderation, the recipe brings together fruit, fibre and natural colour in a child friendly form.
