Hyderabad: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has given chances to many players to showcase their talent. Rising cricketers from across India can play in the league every year. Still, it does not turn into a simple journey for everyone. Sunrisers Hyderabad hasn’t yet played their opening game this season, but one of its players is already under buzz. For young cricketers especially, this player’s professional route to reach the IPL is simply motivating. Just 23 years from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, this player is Aniket Verma.
Aniket Verma will make an IPL debut this season. After his outstanding performance in the MP Premier League last year, Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him in the super auction. With a century off just thirty-two balls, Aniket had left everyone surprised and attracted the interest of cricket fans all around. Sunrisers Hyderabad hired him then with ₹30 lakhs. Playing an innings of 46 runs from 16 balls in practice matches for the team, Aniket has also shown outstanding batting ability, featuring four consecutive sixes off Sri Lankan spinner Kamindu Mendis.
Given the challenges Aniket had in childhood, his ascent to the IPL is quite remarkable. When he was just three years old, his mother died; his father married once more not long after. Amit Verma’s uncle took care of bringing him up and giving him the necessary help to realise his dream of being a cricket player. At ten, Amit registered Aniket at a cricket academy; ever since, Aniket has never looked back, working on his skills.
Aniket mentioned his challenges in an interview with Dainik Bhaskar. He admitted, “My background was not particularly strong. I originally started training the fundamentals under Nandjeet Sir’s Railway Youth Cricket Club. Next, Ankur’s Jyotiprakash Tyagi Sir showed me how to bat.” I train at Faith Cricket Club these days. My uncle cheered me all through. Whenever I desired something, I would notify him, and he would somehow arrange it. His was, I believe, the real fight. Though he never made me realise he lacked anything, he was not financially wise. Though he couldn’t meet his own needs, he always made sure I had what I needed.
Talking about the IPL, Aniket said, “I simply needed an opportunity. One major difference is having possibilities. For me, this marks a significant event, and I will maximise it. I won’t let it go.
