Muzaffarnagar: In a profoundly tragic turn of events, Rajat, the young man who heroically saved Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant’s life during a harrowing car accident on December 30, 2022, is now grappling with his survival after ingesting poison alongside his girlfriend. While his girlfriend, identified as 21-year-old Manu, tragically lost her life due to the poison, Rajat remains in a critical condition and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Rajat, a resident of Mazra Buchcha Basti in Shakarpur, Muzaffarnagar, had been in a committed relationship with Manu over the past five years. However, both families disapproved of their union and arranged alternative marriages for them.
Heartbroken by their families’ refusal to accept their love, the couple made the heart-wrenching decision to consume poison in a field on the evening of February 9. When their families discovered them unconscious, they swiftly transported them to a nursing home in Jhareda, Uttarakhand. Sadly, Manu succumbed to her injuries during treatment on Tuesday, whilst Rajat continues to fight for his life valiantly.
Following his act of heroism in rescuing Rishabh Pant from a severe car accident in 2022, Rajat had become a local icon. Pant’s Mercedes had collided with a divider while he was en route to Roorkee, and Rajat, alongside another individual, managed to extricate the cricketer from the wreckage and hurried him to the hospital.
After enduring months of treatment and recovery, Pant returned to cricket and expressed his gratitude by gifting scooters to Rajat and the other rescuer. Despite Rajat’s accolades for his bravery, the community did not foresee this distressing twist of fate. Manu’s mother, Kamlesh, has complained Rajat and others at the local police station.
Nevertheless, the authorities are waiting for Rajat’s recovery to record his statement. The incident has left the community in shock, as the individual once celebrated as a lifesaver is now embroiled in a desperate struggle for his own life.
