Ex-Air India Pilot Arrested As Drugs Worth Rs 120 Crore Seized

Mumbai: In a massive drug haul, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized 60 kg of mephedrone valued at Rs 120 crore from a warehouse.

A former Air India pilot is among persons who have been arrested.

A large network is believed to be behind the peddling of the party drug, and the latest case is linked to the drug haul at Gujarat’s Jamnagar earlier this week. Four people were arrested in that case.

Sohail Gaffar, the nabbed pilot, trained in the US and worked for Air India. Gaffar quit his job a few years ago citing medical reasons.

The drug cartel is believed to have sold around 225 kg of mephedrone in the market, of which 60 kg was seized from Mumbai, according to NCB officials. They were tipped off by naval intelligence in Jamnagar.

Massive quantities of drugs have been seized in Gujarat this year.

Around 200 kg of mephedrone was seized in Vadodara in August, while in April, 260 kg drugs was seized from Kandla port.

In September 2021, as much as 3000 kg of drugs worth Rs 21,000 crore was seized from Mundra port in one of the biggest drug hauls in India.
