New Delhi: In her first-ever public conversation, Shivon Zilis, the Canadian-Indian Neuralink executive and mother of three of Elon Musk’s children, has proudly spoken about her deep Indian roots and the beautiful Gujarati name she chose for their youngest son.

Appearing on Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath’s popular podcast WTF, the 39-year-old director of operations at Neuralink revealed that their son born earlier this year is named Sekhar – after her maternal grandfather Sekhar Patel from Bhuj, Gujarat.

“My mother was born and raised in India. My nana (maternal grandfather), Sekhar, was from a small village near Bhuj. Naming our son after him felt like bringing the family full circle,” Shivon said warmly, her eyes lighting up as she traced her Kathiyawadi lineage.

The soft-spoken tech leader, who prefers to stay away from the spotlight, also shared how she and Musk balance parenting amid their hectic schedules running xAI, Neuralink and Tesla. “Elon is an incredibly hands-on father despite everything on his plate,” she added.

Shivon’s father is Canadian, but she spent summers in India as a child, and she speaks fondly of Gujarati food, festivals, and family values that still shape her life. With twins Strider and Azure (born 2021) and now little Sekhar, the Musk-Zilis household quietly carries a slice of Gujarat in its midst.

As India celebrates its growing global tech influence, Shivon Zilis’s story is yet another reminder that the desi connect runs deep – even in the world’s most powerful tech families.
