Docs, Social Workers Launch Online Memorial For COVID-19 Victims

Kolkata: The corona pandemic claimed 1,54,486 persons as on Tuesday. Relatives of many, whom COVID took away in the early months after the virus struck, are still going through the emotional trauma for not being able to give their dear ones a final farewell.

To keep alive the memories of loved ones lost to the pandemic, an online covid memorial has been launched by a group of doctors and social workers.

The memorial, nationalcovidmemorial.in was launched by the group in Kolkata last week.

Tributes have already been posted on the website. In one memorial, a man wrote: “When you were here, you surrounded us so much with your love and affection, we can’t refrain ourselves from missing you for a single moment after you were gone forever…”

A youth, Abhishek Kumar Dubey, posted a memorial for his young friend who died fighting the pandemic. He wrote “You were and you are the best person I know, your existence gave meaning to my life…I will always remember you, I know you are at a better place now and don’t worry I am happy and I did crack IIT PhD Entrance as you always wanted, I practice boxing and play badminton but I miss you my dear friend, because no one is there to understand me and praise me unnecessarily or scold me at times. God bless you.”

Dr Abhijit Chowdhury of the group said the memorial will restore some dignity of the people who died and were cremated without even their families being allowed to attend the funeral.

To pay a tribute to their loved ones, families need to upload the death certificates or provide their phone number for verification.
