They Dived Into The Sea To Become Husband And Wife!

Chennai: With the whole sea as a mandap and sea creatures as the ‘baraatis’, a couple from Tamil Nadu tied the knot 60 feet underwater off the coast of Neelankarai in Chennai.

Chinnadurai from Tiruvannamalai and his fiance Shwetha from Coimbatore decided to have an unusual wedding to make it memorable and at the same time, create awareness about waste accumulation in the sea.

Shwetha took up special scuba-diving lessons for the big day. A wedding set was created underwater by using natural flowers, banana plants and flower garlands. An arch was made with the help of coconut leaves, India Today reported.

What is more, the couple even wore traditional attire. Chinnadurai wore a ‘veshti’ and Shwetha wore a saree. both designed to complement the scuba gear.

For the wedding, the couple dived into the sea near the East Coast Road on February 1 with oxygen supply provided for 45 minutes and tied the knot.

Chinnadurai said that it was a different experience to get married underwater among sea creatures. He added that he also wanted to highlight how waste accumulation in the sea is harming the ecosystem, India Today reported.
