Docs Remove Wooden Object, Broken Chain From Throat Of 12-Year-Old Boy

Bengaluru: A group of cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons (CTVS) in Karnataka’s Mangaluru earned accolades for performing life-saving surgery on a 12-year-old boy at the government Wenlock Hospital, reports said. Surgeons extracted a 20-inch wooden piece and a snapped chain blade from the boy’s throat.
The boy from Assam lives with his parents in a tea plantation in Madikeri, said D.S. Shivaprakash, District Surgeon and Hospital Superintendent. The boy was seriously injured on Saturday evening after falling from atop a coconut tree. In the autumn, a wood and a chain of broken blades stuck in his neck and chest.

 

According to the hospital superintendent, the boy was admitted at 12.15 am on Sunday and 7.30 pm on Saturday. The surgical team led by Dr Suresh Pai operated on the boy between 1.30 am and 3.30 am and took out the wooden piece and broken chain.

The boy is in recovery and is under observation, said Dr Suresh Pai. Dr Vinay, attached to Wenlock government hospital in Mangalore, did the surgery free of cost. The efforts by the government doctors have received time for praise. Congratulating the doctors on the commendable job, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said this was a historic moment for Bangalore city.

Dinesh Gundu Rao tweeted: “Our government is always committed to upgrading government hospitals that serve the masses, making them more accessible and providing the best services. The government hospitals are also available with excellent doctors who make such difficult surgeries possible. Our primary charge is to serve the public well.”
