Mumbai: Another lawyer, who had once fought for Salman Khan, has now been hired by Shah Rukh Khan for his son Aryan Khan for the Mumbai drugs bust case.
Shah Rukh Khan has hired lawyer Amit Desai, who had acquitted Salman in the 2002 hit-and-run case.
On October 11, Amit appeared for Aryan Khan in court. Amit Desai defended Aryan Khan in court and asked for a hearing date on his bail plea.
After being served notice for the bail plea, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) counsel told the court that the agency needs at least a week’s time to file replies as there are multiple bail pleas pending in the drugs case.
Defending Aryan, Desai said, “The man is already inside the prison for a week. Bail hearing does not have to depend on investigation. I am not arguing bail, I am only arguing for a date.”
He added, “Just because of their administrative reason, the liberty of someone should not be curtailed. Their investigation may continue. So far as this boy (Aryan Khan) is concerned. The maximum sentence can only be one year. There is no material against him and no substance was found on him. So, if they say that they need time for another week then look at the fact that it is only for a one-year sentence.”
In the bail hearing which is underway at Mumbai session court. Additional solicitor general Anil Singh, the highest Central law officer in the state, is representing the NCB.
In his argument Desai informed the court that Aryan was invited by Prateek Gabba, who has not been arrested.
Desai has argued in court that the star son was invited on the party on cruise ship by Prateek Gabba, person who may not be an organizer. He also stated Gabba was not arrested. Aryan went on the cruise with his friend Arbaaz Merchant. He alleged that information was that a group in Cordelia cruise was carrying out a party with substances for use, sale and consumption, stated reports in IndiaToday.
The hearing is in progress and details are awited.
Amit Desai had represented Salman Khan for his bail hearing in 2015. The advocate had challenged a lower court’s order sentencing Salman to five years of rigorous imprisonment in the case. After Amit defended Salman in May 2015, the actor was granted bail in the case on a sum of Rs 30,000.
